Welcome
to ZeroCrossing, electronic magic. My name is Keith Connelly and I'm the
original inventor of 'The Firefly Illusion'. As a teen,I hand delivered
the first 'Firefly' to the stage door of Doug Hennings play 'Merlin',on
Broadway, and later that night received a phone call from Doug, excited
by the very first application of LEDs to Magic. The rest is
history;fancier tools and beautifully small components have opened up
the stage to the magic of electrons for the purpose of 'deceiving the
eye' and making the impossible seem possible.
At the moment we are concentrating on custom fabricated circuits and applications involving anything you can imagine with an emphasis on sub-miniaturization because the smaller you can 'make it' the easier it is to 'hide' and astound. Later, look for some standard devices that we will put into production for the masses.
How small is small? Check out these series of photos and then a movie of a gaffed nickel that encloses all the parts of a motor,to produce a Nickel that 'spins' at your command: The milling of the nickel: http://www.lightlink.com/keith/NickelRaw.jpg The nickel semi-populated: http://www.lightlink.com/keith/NickelPopulated.jpg Here you see the armature of the motor (that I also use as a signalling device in some of my mentalism apparatus;the whole diameter of this 'vibrator' ,when used this way,is equal to ~10mm and it's thickness is ~3mm!),the motors magnet(under the armature)and two batteries. The nickel spinning: http://www.lightlink.com/keith/NickelSpin.wmv (not the best movie because the nickel spins faster than the frame rate of the camera I used. But you get the idea. I'll try and get a better movie of this in the future).
I have regular motors as small as 3mmX8mm;some with planetary gears making them a little bit larger, that have some real 'torque' for 'getting work done'. Unique mentalism means that incorporate programmable sound and input, devices. Speaking of sound,I've been able to put a complete 'talking' device, inside a single playing card.
We can custom program the tiniest of microprocessors(some with only 6 pins that are on the order of under 1mm high,3mm long and 1.5mm wide!). With these devices any function you need happen can be programmed to perform at you command by say, hitting a switch or even blowing a whistle at a certain pitch!
LEDs have come a long way. Some can literally blind you with their output.
Remote control devices that can talk back and forth (not just one way) between not just your shill and you the performer but with as many(well 64,000 other) devices that you need. Check out one version(top and bottom) of mine that you can 'palm' behind a finger(yes, that's a dime it's next to!): http://www.lightlink.com/keith/nRF24L01bottom.jpg http://www.lightlink.com/keith/nRF24L01top.jpg Yup,that's the antenna in the first picture!
Where could you fit a camera this small? It's digital and supported by a small microprocessor and an easy fix for sending a 'shot' wirelessly. It's lens is integrated in the package you see here:http://www.lightlink.com/keith/uCAM.jpg
I use a computer controlled mill (CNC) to make custom printed circuit boards, first designed on a computer and can also fabricate individual parts with this same machine. Have an older effect with an important but broken part? I can make you one good as new. I work in nickel, brass, copper, silver and all kinds of plastic. Geared mechanisms, semiconductor lasers,SFX,anything mechanical.
These are just a few ideas to get your ideas flowing. The sky's the limit so let your imagination go crazy.
Tell me what you need and I'll give you an estimate and a lead time. Thanks for visiting,Keith Connelly
